Investcorp expands its horizons as it takes a majority stake in SEC Newgate

An Italian global strategic communications and advocacy group, SEC Newgate, is selling a majority stake of its company, to Investcorp from Bahrain. Investcorp is an asset management company with over $50 billion in assets overseen and includes Mubadala Investment Company as its biggest shareholder. It is looking to grow its global portfolio through this move.

The Milan headquartered company has a presence in 22 countries and advises over 1500 companies. It has grown rapidly since early 2022, expanding in the US, Central and South
America and employing 1200 people globally.

The valuation of SEC Newgate stands at over $250 million and the transaction, subject to conditions, is expected to go through between the third and fourth quarters of 2023.

Investcorp made a statement committing to growing SEC Newgate’s geographic expansion, acquisitions, and Greenfield developments. The former has invested over $1.95 billion in European companies since 2012.

Other Investcorp investments in similar people-centric consultancies and communication businesses include- Alix Partners (management), ICR (strategic communication), Resultant (technology), PRO Unlimited/Magnit (workforce management) United Talent Agency (talent and entertainment) and CrossCountry (business).

Investcorp has also announced a number of new agreements to buy stakes in Shandong Jianuo Electronics in China and Shearer Supply in the US and more.

In a statement to Bloomberg, executive chairman, Mohammed Alardhi, said the company has plans to more than double its assets under management, from the 2021 value of $37.6 billion to $100 billion by 2030.
