Qatar tops the World Knowledge Index in labour productivity

According to the Global Knowledge Index (GKI) 2022, published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Foundation Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), Qatar has achieved the highest ranking in the world in two categories: “efficiency of the labour market” and “employment rate with vocational education.” The GKI is a valuable resource for measuring development indicators related to global knowledge assets. In the 2022 edition of the GKI, Qatar was ranked 37th among 132 countries worldwide. Additionally, it was ranked 37th out of 60 countries that have achieved a very high level of human development. The GKI (Global Knowledge Index) identified Qatar’s achievements in the areas of education and employment rates and ranked it first in terms of the proportion of research and development (R&D) expenditure that is allocated to researchers.

Qatar was also ranked first in two categories: having the lowest unemployment rate amongst graduates of higher and vocational education and having the highest proportion of technical education and vocational training jobs. The nation achieved the second-best global ranking for enabling a good learning environment and the top spot in terms of the proportion of primary and secondary schools with access to computers.

The index concentrates on seven complex sub-measures that assess the effectiveness of six crucial knowledge areas including pre-university education, technical education and vocational training, higher education, ICT, innovation, research, and development (R&D), economy, and environment.
