On Track Route 2020

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid recently posted a video on twitter giving his followers a mini tour of the new metro line laid down as part of the plans for the Expo-2020, now postponed to October 2021. He was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

“We announced 47 months ago, the extension of the Dubai Metro red line at a cost of AED 11 Billion. We say what we do, and we do what we say. This is Dubai”, he said jubilant on the launch of the project on time as promised.

RTA started work on project almost four years ago, which had over 12,000 engineers and technicians manning this project that took 80 million work-hours to complete. Route 2020, with 7 new stations included in the Dubai Metro red lines will exclusively carry passengers to and from the global fair and is likely to open for public use by end of the year with tracks running both, over and underground.

The additional stops through the route include: Jebel Ali Station (previously Nakheel Harbour), The Gardens Station, Discovery Gardens Station, Al Furjan Station, Jumeirah Golf Estates Station, Dubai Investment Park Station, and Expo Station, with three more stations planned to be added soon.
