Dubai Expo City to welcome Malaysia’s Pavilion again as a tech hub

Malaysia’s Technology and Innovation Hub that had been established within the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and will be a component of Expo City Dubai when it opens to the public in October of this year.

From October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, almost a million people visited Malaysia’s Rainforest Canopy Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. It also held business and trade programs promoting Malaysian goods and services.

Officials from Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) turned the Pavilion over to Aerodyne Group, a supplier of DT3 (drone technology, data technology, and digital transformation) corporate solutions after it had been deactivated. According to Aerodyne Group, the Pavilion will serve as their second worldwide headquarters.

As the Commissioner-General of Malaysia for Expo 2020 Dubai and the MOSTI Secretary-General, Datuk Zainal Abidin Abu Hassan, said: “We congratulate the people and government of Dubai on its new chapter and look forward to Expo City Dubai’s launch on October 1.” He pointed out that the legacy program for the Expo will strengthen Dubai’s standing as a “tech-enabled metropolis of the future.”

Through the concept of public-private partnership, Mosti will continue to promote activities and market products and services to the UAE market

“Malaysia is proud and honored to be part of Expo City Dubai and will leverage opportunities at the center envisioned to be a global hub for creativity and a model for cities of the future. We are excited to be part of the ‘most beautiful ambitions of Dubai’ as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” the Malaysian minister added.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), which designed a 1,234 square meter, two-and-a-half story skyscraper with a rainforest canopy, spearheaded Malaysia’s entry into Expo 2020 Dubai. 10% of the Pavilion’s energy came from approximately 40 solar panels on its roof. “The UAE is a major hub in the West Asian region, which serves as a gateway for Malaysian companies to explore new markets,” said Datuk Abu Hassan, secretary general of Mosti.

Their participation in the five-year-legacy programme can also help facilitate Malaysian companies’ access the global market and highlight Malaysia’s comprehensive ecosystem, support, and infrastructure to investors.

“Through the concept of public-private partnership, Mosti, together with the ministries, government agencies, and state governments that focus on technology development, will continue to promote activities and market products and services to the UAE market,” Datuk Abu Hassan added.
