Creating Your Wellness Home

Wellbeing Coach and Consultant

Our home is our haven. The place we return to after a long day’s work to rejuvenate, and the space where we spend beautiful moments with our family and ourselves. In the present situation where some of us continue to work from home, our living pads have become our sanctuary, our playground, our office, our place to socialize and find intimacy.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could create the perfect wellness oasis right where you live, for you and your family? Following the well-known wellness wheel model concept, you could easily instill into your home the dimensions of breathing, sensing, drinking and eating, moving, feeling, thinking, self-responsibility, and safety. Below are the eight pointers to follow for each of these:

1. Breathing

Studies and statistics state that the pollution inside a house is 2-5 times greater than outside due to the artificial environment we live in and the unhealthy products, equipment, and furniture that fill our homes. Choose natural and organic cleaning materials, say goodbye to the artificial air fresheners, and use natural herbs, essential oils and spices to create that exquisite fragrance and aid your breathing.

2. Sensing and Good Light personality

We function 24/7, and it is vital to adjust the biorhythm towards the circadian light cycle, rising with the sun and resting when dark. Sadly our modern lifestyle, with all its digital distraction’s affects our metabolic cycle. Invest in multi-tempered lights for your bedroom radiating in orange shades to naturally boost the body’s melatonin levels. Choose a blue light in the morning to help reduce melatonin levels and overcome morning drowsiness.

Choose light colors for your walls and furniture as they reflect the daylight and visually make the space look much brighter and bigger, especially for your living room/working spaces

3. Drinking

Schedule a lab visit to assess the water quality at your home and use the best filter system available. These can be varieties of models like Brita filter, Kangen water, LifeSource that function on carbon, UV, ceramic, and other filter types. Those can be exchanged or maintained monthly/annually and suit every budget. Water, after all, is the elixir of life.

4. Feeling and Comfort

To create a home where we feel at home is a demanding but rewarding endeavor. Start by creating corners and spots that are enjoyably comfortable for the eye and body, such as a meditation or a self-reflection space. Avoid too many distractions such as unmade beds, crowded countertops, or TV cords that are clutter to the mind. Separate room spaces such as the active and relaxing one, and don’t place them too close to each other. This creates the right atmosphere for each of them.

5. Thinking

Bring nature into your home! Mimicking nature, wherever possible within your space, creates a feeling of being outdoors. Place in your living room different kinds of rugs, pillows, and mats in natural patterns or colors, indoor plants, or perhaps set up an aquarium or a water feature to create that perfect environ

6. Eating

How likely you are to eat an apple if it’s in the fridge? Place your healthy and fresh food in the centerpiece or on the kitchen countertops where you will be instantly reaching out rather than forgetting them lying in the fridge. Clean the chiller regularly and do not use plastic containers as they leach a lot of toxins into the food directly.

7. Moving

As per health recommendations, we need to do vigorous physical exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. Implement an active standing desk at your home office.

Fitness rooms are often created in the back yard or somewhere hidden. Do position them in the front area, so you remind yourself to exercise daily and start your day with a simple stretch bar and a yoga mat if that is what you enjoy. Create fun and active zones in your rooms using gym balls for sitting and perhaps install decorative climbing walls or TRX bands in the entry spaces or back yards so you always get a chance to be active. Practice passive fitness while watching TV sitting on the floor, and engage in some stretching.

8. Self-Responsibility and Safety

As per medical statistics, yearly 21 million accidents are happening at homes. Do invest in guiding lights by the places you are most likely to use during the night – by the kitchen, stairs, and washrooms. Move away all the cleaning chemicals under the sink into a separate shed or storage room created for that purpose. You will eliminate the chemicals’ smell, which is extremely poisonous, and restrict easy access to kids.

Ensure you take care of all the shoddy wiring and defective electric wires, cracked wire insulation caused by heat, age, bending, and install electric outlets at a fair distance from water sources. Install non-slip mats, grab bars in showers and tubs, and have your home emergency kit always available, handy, and re-stocked.

With simple wellness implementations, everyday tasks are made simpler; your brain works more productively, you become healthier, and create environments that boost joy and happiness.

Evolving wellness-centric designs combine cognitive psychology and neuroscience and are proven to pump out dopamine and create a delightful experience. Wellness homes help you create a sanctuary to nourish your body, mind, and spirit for a well balanced holistic living.

Take some time and create your perfect space today.
